For most of its life, Copilot in Teams has waited to be asked: Open the panel, type a question, get an answer.
This month, that starts to change: Facilitator can now act without being prompted, and outside agents are getting an official route into Teams through the admin centre. This is the first in what will be a recurring monthly look at the two products together.

Facilitator learns to search the web mid-meeting
The clearest change this month is to Facilitator, the meeting agent Microsoft made generally available late last year for note-taking and agenda tracking. Originally due in August, the feature has slipped to a September rollout: when a factual question goes unanswered during a meeting, Facilitator can now run a Copilot web search and post the answer directly into the meeting chat, without anyone asking it to.
Microsoft described the update in a message to its admin portal:
We are introducing a new Microsoft Teams Facilitator capability that proactively detects and resolves knowledge gaps during meetings.
The capability requires Microsoft 365 Copilot Premium, has to be switched on manually for each meeting, and is designed to fire less than once per meeting to avoid becoming a distraction. It still marks a genuine change in kind. Every other mainstream Copilot surface in Teams today reacts to a prompt. Facilitator now decides on its own when to speak.
That's the direction Microsoft has been signalling since it first introduced Facilitator alongside a wider set of collaborative agents last September. Announcing the agents at the time, Nicole Herskowitz, corporate vice president for Microsoft 365 and Copilot, said Copilot was:

A year on, that's the piece actually shipping. Once Facilitator is enabled, its answers appear in the meeting chat for everyone present, including external and cross-tenant attendees who may not hold a Copilot licence themselves, so it's worth deciding as a matter of policy whether it should be on by default rather than left to whoever happens to be organising a given call.
Admin & third-party agents
Third-party agents get a home in the Teams admin centre
Microsoft is also making it easier to bring outside agents into Teams. Admins can now discover and enable third-party Teams agents directly from the Teams admin centre, complete with recommendations and visibility into what configuration each one requires, ahead of general availability in October.
GitHub Copilot is the example Microsoft has been showing off. GitHub's own changelog describes handing it a task mid-standup and letting it investigate a problem in the background while the meeting continues, with everyone able to see its progress and steer it. Atlassian's Rovo agent works similarly for Jira and Confluence, pulling ticket context into a Teams chat. Both point to the same shift: Teams becoming a surface where agents from outside Microsoft can pick up work directly from a conversation, which raises the same question UC Today has flagged before around Copilot's access to collaboration data, just applied to a wider set of tools.
Devices & Rooms
Rooms, panels and phones become "intelligent spaces"
The device side of Teams gets a rebrand this month too. Microsoft is now referring to Rooms, desks, panels and phones collectively as "intelligent spaces," alongside a rollout of passwordless Entra resource accounts for Windows and Android Rooms devices, panels and phones. A migration wizard and progress dashboard in the Pro Management Portal is available now across worldwide, GCC and GCC High tenants to help admins move existing accounts across.

Worth watching
Facilitator's proactive search and the admin centre's third-party agents are two different routes to the same place: less of Teams' AI needs to be switched on by hand. Whether that ships smoothly depends on what happens between now and general availability. Microsoft has form here. A related feature, letting Copilot Studio agents join meetings directly, was quietly shelved in August after being on the roadmap for over a year, a reminder that not everything on the roadmap makes it out the door.
