Zoom and NVIDIA have announced a momentous partnership, whereby integrating NVIDIA’s Nemotron open technologies into Zoom’s federated AI architecture, the companies aim to deliver faster, more innovative, and more cost-efficient AI to organisations.
The collaboration underpins Zoom AI Companion 3.0, a suite of generative capabilities that can intelligently switch between Small Language Models (SLMs) and Large Language Models (LLMs) depending on the task. The mooted result is faster responses for routine tasks, and deeper reasoning for complex queries, all while managing costs and latency.
X.D. Huang, CTO at Zoom, commented:
“With the help of NVIDIA Nemotron open technologies, we’re accelerating the development of our enterprise retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) capabilities. This partnership allows us to deliver powerful, security-focused, and scalable AI experiences to our customers at rapid speed."
Building a Smarter AI Fabric With NVIDIA and Zoom
At the heart of this partnership lies an architectural evolution. Zoom’s new hybrid model includes a 49-billion-parameter LLM built using NVIDIA NeMo tools. This enables the platform to dynamically route requests across multiple models, whether for transcription, translation, summarisation, or multi-step reasoning.
This federated approach allows Zoom’s AI Companion to leverage the most efficient model for each task, aiming to strike a balance between accuracy, speed, and cost. By leveraging NVIDIA’s GPU infrastructure and AI software stack, Zoom claims it can enhance decision-making, expedite the deployment of AI features, and reduce operational costs.
For IT leaders, this development underscores the prevailing trend toward AI orchestration, where intelligence is no longer confined to a single model or platform, but is distributed and adaptive across ecosystems.
"The integration of NVIDIA Nemotron into Zoom AI Companion allows enterprises like NVIDIA to experience a private, powerful, and personalised work environment for enhanced productivity,” added Kari Briski, VP of Generative AI Software at NVIDIA.
Compatibility is central to the appeal. Zoom AI Companion is being optimised to interoperate with Microsoft 365, Teams, Google Workspace, Slack, Salesforce, and ServiceNow. This aims to reduce friction for hybrid environments, a persistent challenge for global IT teams.
