Zoom’s new Immersive View feature brings up to 25 meeting participants together into a single scene, such as a classroom, fireside chat, or boardroom.
The feature, first announced at last year’s Zoomtopia event, can be selected by meeting hosts in the same way that they would choose Speaker View or Gallery View. Hosts will also have the ability to move and resize participants.
David Ball, Product Marketing Specialist at Zoom, said: “Sometimes we all just need to think outside the video box once in a while; that’s why we’re excited to unveil Immersive View, a more engaging and collaborative way to meet!
“We’ve provided a few scenes to get you started, but you can also upload your own. Hosts can even use their own video as an Immersive View scene, bringing participants into their personal virtual background”
Zoom says that Immersive View will provide participants with more fun and dynamic environments.
Its launch comes just after Zoom released other features such as new emojis, vanishing pen annotations and Smart Gallery View for Zoom Rooms.
Immersive view will be available by default for Free and Pro users on Windows and MacOS using Zoom 5.6.3 or higher. It can be activated via the Zoom portal for all other account types.
Users not running a compatible operating system or supported version of Zoom’s software can participate as normal but will see the meeting in either Gallery View or Speaker View.
Immersive View will end automatically if the meeting host shares their screen and will be resumed when the sharing has ended.
Meetings cannot yet be recorded in Immersive View and will appear in Gallery View or Speaker View, depending on meeting settings.
