Zoom adds Apple exec to board

Zoom has appointed Apple executive Mike Fenger as an independent director on its Board of Directors.

Fenger, the Vice President of Worldwide Sales at Apple, oversees global product sales for the tech giant. Zoom says his team plays a critical role in supporting customers to discover products they love.

Since joining Apple in 2008, Zoom outlines that Fenger has been instrumental in strengthening partnerships with telecoms and consumer electronics resellers and deepening connections with customers in the enterprise, education, and government sectors. He began his Apple career as the Vice President of Global iPhone Sales, where he led the expansion of iPhone distribution to customers worldwide.

Fenger said:

Zoom plays an important role connecting people around the world, and I’m excited to join the Board and contribute to its future success. Eric Yuan has built a great team, and the company’s dedication to driving innovative technology is inspiring. I’m really looking forward to working with them."

Zoom explains that Fenger brings over 20 years of experience in building and leading sales teams for global companies. Prior to joining Apple, he held senior positions at General Electric (GE) and Motorola, where he was credited with playing a key role in developing and executing strategies for sales, operations, marketing, and supply chain management across the Americas, Europe, and Greater China. Fenger is a graduate of Miami University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Economics.

“On behalf of Zoom’s Board of Directors, I am thrilled to welcome Mike to the team,” added Zoom founder and CEO Eric S Yuan. “Mike’s experience at Apple and companies including GE, and his proven track record of global leadership bring valuable insights that align perfectly with our vision. We’re excited to see the fresh perspective and innovative ideas he’ll contribute as we continue driving our growth and success.”

Zoom Aims To Boost Meeting Engagement With Smart Name Tags

Zoom has announced the addition of AI-powered smart name tags intended to enhance meeting engagement and inclusivity.

Now, in its public beta for Zoom Rooms, these tags utilise AI to automatically assign name tags to individuals in a Zoom Room. This feature aims to elevate the virtual meeting experience by allowing remote participants to identify who is present in the room, fostering a more connected and seamless interaction.

Admins must enable the feature through the settings to utilise smart name tags. Individual users can then enrol and provide consent via their profile, allowing their name tag to be automatically displayed in the Zoom Room’s video feed. These name tags can also be edited if necessary.
