Webex 8bn monthly calls milestone

Webex is now hitting eight billion calls a month on its platform, Cisco has said.

The networking giant released the figure as it announced it has also brought Cisco Calling Plans to the UK.

Jeetu Patel, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Cisco Security and Collaboration, said: “With the move to hybrid work and increasing pressure to delight customers, there’s never been a greater need to unify communications across the entire workforce

“As enterprises look to migrate calling solutions to the cloud, Webex Calling offers the leading end-to-end, secure calling experience that makes unified communications a reality”

Cisco said that its Calling Plans and Cloud Connected service, which brings PSTN calling to the Webex cloud, are now available in more than 65 countries.

The Webex platform was recently rebranded as the Webex Suite, bringing together calling, messaging, meetings, events and technology from recently acquired companies Slido and Socio.

Javed Khan, Senior Vice President of Collaboration at Cisco, said that the eight billion calls on the platform per month are the most of any cloud calling provider.

The phone call is the fundamental means of business communication, but in the new world of work it is becoming so much more,” he said in a blog post.

“Calling has evolved as we’ve shifted to a hybrid work model, but phone systems are still embedded in businesses’ everyday workflows.

“Organisations are feeling increasing pressure to delight customers and unify communications across their entire workforce, seamlessly and securely.”

Cisco said that it has made PSTN calling easier by allowing users to mix and match solutions to help them meet location and operational requirements.

Cloud Connected PSTN has also been integrated with Control Hub, meaning users can automate the ordering and provisioning of numbers. Cisco said this means the process length has been cut from days to meanings.

Cisco recently announced the launch of Vidcast - an asynchronous video application designed to reduce the number of video meetings that workers have to join.
