Operator Connect Mobile Receives a Name Change

Microsoft rebrands Operator Connect Mobile as Teams Phone Mobile, adding fixed-mobile convergence for Teams, PSTN and SIM-enabled calling

Operator Connect Mobile rename

Microsoft has rebranded Operator Connect Mobile to Microsoft Teams Phone Mobile at Ignite 2022.

The integration, which is now available to all users, allows for a SIM-enabled number across mobile, desktop and Microsoft Teams.

Microsoft Teams Phone Mobile is a fixed-mobile convergence that combines a user's carrier service and the collaboration platform.

Bindu Pillai, Product Marketing Lead at Microsoft, said: "Microsoft Teams Phone delivers rich communication and collaboration with Teams Phone VoIP calling capabilities complemented by an enterprise-grade public switched telephone network (PSTN) service.

"Earlier this year, we shared our vision for using a single, business-provided phone number as a user’s mobile and Teams Phone number, enabling new levels of mobility, flexibility, and efficiency.

"This resonated with organizations responsible for supporting a mobile and hybrid workforce.

"Teams Phone Mobile, previously known as Operator Connect Mobile, is now available for Rogers Business customers in Canada and Telia customers in Sweden.

"BT, Deutsche Telekom, Swisscom, and Verizon will expand Teams Phone Mobile market coverage in coming months."

How it Works

Teams Phone Mobile means that users can use their mobile phones how they normally would while the organisation can enable business calling features and policies on their mobile devices.

The integration allows calls to move seamlessly across networks and devices without interruptions.

For example, a user can start a call via a mobile phone network and then move it to an internet-based video call in Teams without having to hang up and restart the interaction.

Microsoft states that this feature enables "rich communication and collaboration" between users.

Teams Phone Mobile ensures that a user will have access to their calls, voicemail and transcriptions regardless of the location that they choose to work from.

Leading Mobile Vendors

Microsoft Teams Phone Mobile collaborates with some of the world's biggest telecom operators.

The company has already confirmed that Teams Phone Mobile is now available with Rogers in Canada, which is the first operator in the world to support the integration and Telia in Sweden.

Microsoft has also announced that Verizon, BT and Swisscom will launch soon, with more operators joining the platform later.

Last month, Deutsche Telekom announced that it would be the only provider in Germany to offer "Mobile für Microsoft Teams" as the platforms unite to provide a rounded UC experience to customers.

Mobile für Microsoft Teams can be directly managed in the Microsoft Teams Admin Center, with the setup being simple for users.

Telekom customers can import the telephone numbers directly into the Teams platform and assign them to users.
