Updates to Meet and Gmail Among Latest Workspace Improvements

Google Workspace updates to Meet, Gmail and Sheets improve file sharing, search and pivot tables for hybrid work users. Published on UC Today.

Google Meet and Gmail Workspace updates

Google has released a variety of updates to its Workspace platform that include tweaks to Google Meet and Gmail.

The company is making it easier to share files, search emails, and also improve the functionality of its Sheets platform.

Google announced a host of significant updates to Workspace at Google Cloud Next '22 in October.

The new features were designed to bridge connections between those who are operating in the hybrid workplace and make collaborating easier.

Here is a look at some of the features that Google has made in its most recent update:

Share Files in Meet Chat

In April, Google announced that it was giving users the ability to join or present a Meet call from Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides.

Now the company is making it possible to share the file a user is presenting with other meeting participants through the in-meeting chat.

Google states that users can grant access to a document, presentation, or spreadsheet to all or select meeting participants.

The feature allows everyone in the meeting to collaborate on a project while having a conversation.

Search Results Based on Gmail Activity

Google is improving search results based on recent search activity within Gmail when used on a web browser.

Users will notice the following:

  • Better and more contextual contact suggestions with intent matching for names and email addresses.
  • Personalised suggestions that are based on historical exchanges.

According to a Google blog, the feature makes Gmail search results "more relevant and contextual".

Resize Editor Panels in Sheets

Google is making it possible for users to resize the pivot table editor side panel within Google Sheets.

The company states this can be done when creating or editing a pivot table.

According to Google, the feature has been requested by Workspace users and is useful when the names of columns or fields are too long, and users want to see the entirety of the text.
